EXPLORE GAUDI’S CASA BATLLÓ BARCELONA: GUIDE & GENUINE TIPS (VIDEO)

February 22, 2019

Casa Batlló – one of the most iconic works of Antoni Gaudí, is yet another most popular attractions in Barcelona. From the outside façade, the balconies look as if they’re made out of “skulls” and the supporting pillars look like “bones”, thus Casa Batlló is also known among locals as the “Casa dels ossos” (House of Bones).

Below 1- min video shall get you a quick impression of this architecture grandeur:

This was originally a normal residential apartment (constructed in 1875) with 8 houses in 4 floors. In 1900, it was bought by Josep Batlló family and renovated by Antoni Gaudí between 1904 and 1906. Gaudi’s redesign of the facade and interior architecture transformed this apartment into a special piece of architecture in the style of Catalan modernism, and made the address priceless today!.

The Batlló’s have long since vacated the building, but it is still open as a museum dedicated to the architect Antoni Gaudí and visitors can experience the unique building for themselves.

THINGS TO SEE IN CASA BATLLÓ:

  • Facade : The facade of Casa Batlló is completely in mosaic glass and ceramic disks, in a wave appearance. The roof is shaped like a dragon’s back with large scales, with a cross mounted on a tower.
  • Noble Floor : It’s the former residence of the Batlló family and spans more than 700m² and is the main residence in the building. It’s an impressive interior design to witness.
  • Loft: The Loft was the former service area with an underlying Mediterranean influence in its simplicity, openness and light white colours.
  • Roof terrace: it is one of Gaudí’s most creative and inventive areas of the house, shaped like a dragon’s spine with multi-coloured tiles in a mosaic technique.

OPENING HOURS AND TICKET PRICES

  • Opening hours: Open 365 days a year; From 9.00 am to 9.00 pm(last entry: 8.00 pm)
  • Recommended duration of visit: Approximately 1 hour
  • Tickets: €24.50 for adults ; €21.50 for Children (7-18)

TIPS TO AVOID QUEUE AT CASA BATLLÓ:

Casa Batlló is one of the top attractions of Barcelona, so there can be huge crowd in the entrances, especially during peak tourist seasons. Below are some useful ways to skip the crowd.

  • Buying tickets on-line gets you fast-track access.
  • Try to visit early in the morning or around 4PM in the evening (this is the time of Spanish ‘siesta’, so no locals will be around)
  • Barcelona City Pass is also an option, that can save your time & money (depends on your other places of visit)

HONEST REVIEW: It’s an amazing treasure for the people who’re so into arts & architecture, but I don't think it's worth the money (€24.50) and waiting time for a regular tourist. I would recommend you to ask yourself about what kind of visitor you are - before going to Casa Batlló and then decide it yourself!

  21. €24.50 seems to be a lot indeed! I don't think I can afford that for a sightseeing tour only. But who knows? Maybe I'll change my mind when I get there one day. But for now, I don't think I'll spend that much.
